This Saturday, June 6th, Bellecour Square is completely transforming. The heart of Lyon becomes a giant playground for the 4th edition of Open Sport, a free event that invites both young and old to try out more than twenty sports disciplines, focusing on inclusion, discovery, and the Olympic spirit.

It's hard to imagine a more iconic place than Bellecour to host an event of this scale. From 10 AM to 6 PM, one of the largest squares in Europe will resonate with the spirit of sport in all its forms. Organized by the Lyon Sports Office, this Open Sport day turns the city center into a true ephemeral Olympic village.With 26 associations involved, the goal is clear: to make sports accessible to everyone and allow the public to freely try out a variety of disciplines, some lesser-known, often spectacular.

From Disability Sports to Unusual Sports: A Day to Try Everything

Open Sport celebrates the richness of sports diversity. Wheelchair basketball, adaptive rugby, boxing, gymnastics, capoeira, and baseball with 5 players will be available for beginners throughout the day. Visitors will also have the chance to discover more unique activities like tchoukball or tandem courses, inspired directly by Paralympic performances.

The event places a strong emphasis on inclusion, featuring many booths dedicated to raising awareness about disability sports and making sports accessible for everyone. The idea is not just to watch, but to participate, try out, and understand the realities of each discipline.

A free event that embraces the Olympic spirit of Lyon

Beyond just a sports gathering, Open Sport is part of a larger movement. With nearly 15,000 visitors expected, this fourth edition continues the legacy of the Paris 2024 Games and is already paving the way for the 2030 Winter Olympics, where Lyon will play a key role in hosting a significant part of the winter sports.

Conferences, demonstrations, and exchanges will complement this festive day, designed as a moment of sharing around the values of sports: self-improvement, inclusion, and friendliness. This Saturday, Bellecour will not just be the center of Lyon; it will become, for one day, the beating heart of sports for everyone.
