Parades, shows, and total immersion

For two days, Old Lyon swaps its everyday vibe for an atmosphere straight out of the 16th century. On May 30th and 31st, the Renaissance Festival makes its grand return with a simple promise: to immerse visitors in a true outdoor historical fresco. Created nearly forty years ago by the Festival Committee, the event draws over 20,000 curious souls each year, all eager to time travel without a return ticket.

Here, history isn't just told; it’s experienced! In the cobblestone streets of Old Lyon, period camps, musicians, storytellers, and duelists bring the Renaissance back to life. The highlight of the event? A grand inaugural parade starting from Place Bellecour and making its way to Place Saint-Jean, featuring impressive flag throwers from Asti and the iconic Lyon Pennons. It’s like a Game of Thrones version of Rhône-Alpes, but with more costumes and fewer dragons!

A market of artisans and skills to rediscover

The Renaissance Festival also highlights the gestures of yesteryear and traditional crafts. Calligraphy, stone carving, handmade creations... the market set in the heart of the neighborhood promises a sensory immersion between tradition and authenticity. It’s the perfect opportunity to stroll, learn, and leave with a keepsake that has more history than just a simple magnet.

This year, the event celebrates a key moment: the 425th anniversary of the Treaty of Lyon. Signed during the reign of Henri IV, this treaty marks the integration of new territories into the Kingdom of France. A commemoration that adds even more meaning to this journey into the past, blending education with live performances.
