The Lion Dance: a ritual to chase away evil spirits
At the heart of this celebration, the Lion Dance will take place in all its splendor. This ancient tradition holds strong symbolic significance: it aims to ward off evil spirits. According to legend, a fearsome monster feeds on souls on the first day of the year, and to repel it, nothing beats light and movement. Thus, the dancers, wearing majestic lion costumes, will traverse Rue Passet, inviting merchants to participate by making offerings.
A day full of Chinese culture
Aside from the Lion parade, Rue Passet will come alive with street food gastronomic delights, martial arts demonstrations, and other enchanting activities. It's a unique opportunity to dive into Chinese culture, savor delicious food, feel the rhythm of the demonstrations, and most importantly, celebrate the Year of the Wooden Dragon together. Lyon will become the stage for a cosmopolitan party where traditions blend with modernity in an explosion of joy and colors.
