The fresh air and the scent of nature are waiting for you! Tucked away in a natural amphitheater just an hour and a half east of Lyon, the magnificent Luizet waterfall tumbles down from a height of 100 meters before flowing into the La Pernaz river, which then winds its way through a breathtaking gorge to join the Rhône. To take in this awe-inspiring natural wonder, a little stroll is in order. Starting from the Onglas car park, allow yourself about 45 minutes to reach the waterfall. But don't worry, the path is easy to navigate and will treat you to a delightful walk amidst nature. Head to the right from the car park and follow the path that leads straight to the waterfall. The return journey follows the same path, making for a total of 1.5 hours of leisurely walking in total.

A waterfall among the most beautiful in the region

To fully enjoy the Luizet waterfall, prefer the spring and autumn periods (we admit, we're not great with timing...). It is during these seasons that the flow of the waterfall is most spectacular, offering a stunning natural spectacle. Imagine yourself facing this impressive waterfall, with the soothing sound of the flowing water and the beauty of the surrounding landscapes. A real change of scenery not far from the hustle and bustle of Lyon!

A unique and preserved site

The Luizet Waterfall is not just a stunning location, it's also a protected natural area. Recognized as "Sensitive Natural Areas" by the Department of Ain in 2015, this space is carefully managed to conserve its extraordinary biodiversity. In January 2020, the La Pernaz river also received the "Wild River" designation, confirming its preservation and purity. These designations ensure that the site is set up to welcome visitors while maintaining the delicate balance of the natural ecosystems.

The ENS labeled sites are true natural jewels, and the Luizet Cascade is no exception. With its karstic geology forming many waterfalls and very fragile tufa habitats, it is a place where nature reigns supreme. So whether you are a hiking enthusiast, budding photographer, or simply looking for a quiet spot to recharge, the Luizet Cascade is the perfect place.
