Spring hasn’t officially shown its face yet, but the call of nature is already being felt. In Lovagny, in Haute-Savoie, just 1.5 hours from Lyon, the legendary Gorges du Fier will reopen to the public starting March 15, 2026. It's a fantastic reason to plan a nature getaway not too far from Lyon to escape the city's gloom.

Less touristy than the Verdon Gorges but just as spectacular, these gorges carved by the Fier River over 20,000 years offer a raw, mineral, and striking backdrop. Here, there's no exaggerated folklore, just the power of water and time.

A suspension bridge high above the void

The highlight is this 250-meter-long bridge clinging to the rock, 25 meters above the water. Accessible and fully secured, it lets you cross the canyon close to the walls sculpted by erosion. Thrilling sensations guaranteed, without needing a mountaineering degree!

The visit lasts about an hour and offers some truly mesmerizing moments, especially in front of the famous "Sea of Rocks," a mineral chaos with surprising shapes. Some visitors see faces or silhouettes, a perfect effect of pareidolia. Others simply enjoy admiring the clarity of the water weaving through the cliffs. In any case, the experience is immersive.

A journey between legends and preserved nature

In addition to being incredibly spectacular, the Gorges du Fier also spark the imagination. Between the Clearing of the Curious, the Isle of Legends, and the "Imagi…Fier" space, the path blends education, poetry, and sharing. All of this takes place in a lush, preserved environment that's accessible to everyone.

Just ten kilometers from Annecy and not far from Aix-les-Bains, this spot checks all the boxes for a successful spring outing: nature, freshness, and a chance to disconnect. It's the perfect alternative to overcrowded destinations for those who want to breathe easy away from the crowd.
