Lyon swaps its sneakers for pointed shoes, its trams for trebuchets, and its burgers for meats roasted over an open fire. For a weekend, Old Lyon puts on its fancy attire to host a special edition of the Renaissance Festival, organized by the City of Lyon's Festival Committee. The program includes two days of joy, with fifes and drums, sharpened bows, and colorful dresses. This year, the event celebrates a major historical episode: the royal marriage of Henri IV and Marie de’ Medici in Lyon in 1600. Just that!

A Lyon tradition for nearly 40 years

For nearly 40 years, this grand celebration has revived the spirit of the 16th century with a passion that even Leonardo da Vinci would envy. Every year, over 20,000 visitors flock to admire the parades led by the Pennons – these former local militias who have become the guardians of tradition – and to experience a larger-than-life immersion in a city that was once one of the jewels of the French Renaissance.

An immersive and spectacular medieval program

The highlight of the show? A grand costumed parade starting from Place Bellecour, led by historical companies and impressive flag throwers from Asti. And that's just the beginning! With sword fights, military camps, period dances, an artisan market, and even live chess games (yes, you heard that right), every corner of Old Lyon transforms into a vibrant stage.

No need for a Delorean to travel through time, on May 24th and 25th, Lyon will take you back to the 16th century.
