An exceptional site between hiking and discovery

Les Sauts de Charmine is a classified and protected site that offers a stunning natural spectacle in the municipality of Matafelon-Granges in Ain. To get there from Lyon, it takes about 1 hour by car taking the A42 towards Oyonnax. Once you arrive at the Oignin river, you will be greeted by a small lake popular with fishermen, and this is where your adventure begins...

The starting point of the hike is located at the edge of the Oignin. Following the marked trail, you will walk through a landscape labeled as a Sensitive Natural Area (ENS). 15 minutes later, you will arrive in this little piece of paradise. Our colleagues from Actu Lyon shared the experience of an enthusiastic visitor on Google: "To get there, just before the dam, take the road on the left. Drive 200 meters and park in the small parking lot. The rest is on foot, follow the path that will take you to the riverbank." Easy as pie, right?

Abundance of Waterfalls and Natural Pools

Once at the river's edge, get ready to feast your eyes. Multiple waterfalls and natural pools shaped by the water await you. These pools are perfect for a refreshing swim and even some daring jumps for the adventurous. The perfect setting to plunge into crystal clear waters surrounded by greenery, a true haven of peace!

And let's not forget that the Sauts de Charmine is a protected site. Respect the environment by avoiding leaving waste and following the marked trails. Wild parking is prohibited and subject to a fine, so park only in authorized areas.
