If the Olympic Games have adopted their contemporary format for several decades, the spectacle was already present during antiquity. And this weekend, Lyon (alias Lugdunum for the insiders) plunges us back into this distant era to embark on the great adventure of the ancient Gallo-Roman Olympic Games. An entirely free immersion open to all with plenty of entertainment.

The highlight of the show? The Olympic Athletes! For 45 minutes, experience an incredible demonstration of ancient sports. From armored races to discus throws, each performance will reveal how the Greeks and Romans mastered the art of sport. It's not just a show, but a true history lesson in motion.

Visit the Ancient Theaters website to try your hand at long jump with dumbbells, handle an ankyle, a flexible throwing tool favored by the Greeks, or play a round of harpastum, the ancient ball game that is a fascinating mix of soccer, rugby, and handball. It's the perfect opportunity to unleash the athlete within you, in a historical setting!

Treasure hunt and fun tours

Looking for a quieter adventure? Head to the museum where you can participate in an engaging treasure hunt through the historic site and discover the daily life of the Gallo-Romans. For an immersive experience, delve into...For an even more complete experience, don't miss the fun (and sporty!) guided tour of the area, translated into French Sign Language for maximum accessibility.

Dive into the world of ancient body care with a workshop on creating scented oils, or immerse yourself in circus games during an interactive board game that will explain the intricacies of chariot races. And for those who prefer a more theoretical approach, a brief but enriching presentation will reveal everything about sports practiced during Antiquity at the Amphitheatre des Trois Gaules.
