Tourists are overwhelmingly giving a thumbs up to their stay in Lyon. According to a study conducted by Only Lyon Tourisme et Congrès featuring 5,024 visitors, 99% say they are satisfied with their trip to the capital of the Gauls. Even better: 94% claim they want to come back. A score that would make many European destinations blush.
Every year, over a million travelers wander through the cobblestone streets of Vieux Lyon, a UNESCO World Heritage site, or settle into a bouchon to savor the local cuisine. And clearly, the experience leaves a lasting impression.
Heritage and gastronomy top the charts of favorite experiences
The ancient architecture and Vieux-Lyon are by far the most mentioned highlights. 70% of visitors...rs highlight the charm of the historic center. Gastronomy follows with 52% of mentions, confirming Lyon's status as a foodie capital. Fourvière gathers 27%, ahead of the city's history (26%), pedestrian streets (25%), and strolls (23%). The fact that everything is walkable also appeals to 21% of respondents.

Lyon's dining scene and cultural offerings both boast a fantastic 96% satisfaction rate. Even the locals get high marks: 93% of visitors find the people of Lyon pleasant. The only downside? The nightlife, with a bit lower satisfaction at 86%. It's decent, but there's room for improvement.
Some critiques on prices and cleanliness
However, it's not all sunshine and rainbows. Among the weak spots mentioned, the value for money tops the list with 18% of feedback. Urban decay (15%) and cleanliness issues (13%) also get a mention. Traffic, ongoing construction, and even the weather add to the mix of little annoyances. Despite these concerns, 27% of visitors report being pleasantly surprised by their stay. The city’s beauty, cultural richness, and warm welcome often exceed expectations.
