Lyon can proudly boast of hosting renowned healthcare facilities! This year, three hospitals from the Hospices Civils de Lyon (HCL) once again make it to the prestigious ranking of the 250 best hospitals in the world compiled by the American magazine Newsweek. This ranking celebrates the medical excellence of the capital of Gaul and confirms its status as a major international health hub.
Leading the Lyon hospitals this year is once again the Lyon Sud hospital, located in Pierre-Bénite, which earns the 143rd spot in the global ranking. While the Pitié-Salpêtrière in Paris, at 11th place, remains untouchable, Lyon Sud is nonetheless a reference in terms of care and medical innovation. Further down the ranking, the Louis Pradel hospital in Bron stands at 187th place, while the iconic Édouard-Herriot hospital comes in at 241st. Three establishments that truly shine!

Lyon finds its place among the hospital elite
This ranking, done in partnership with the polling institute Statista, is no random affair. Every year, Newsweek reviews over 2,000 hospitals across 30 countries. The evaluation criteria are strict and focus on four main areas: recommendations from medical experts (doctors, hospital directors, healthcare professionals), results from patient surveys, performance indicators of the facilities, and finally, the use of PROMs (questionnaires allowing patients to assess the quality of care and their treatment).
Lyon can thus be proud of its hospital excellence, a result of the hard work of thousands of healthcare professionals. This international ranking only confirms what the people of Lyon already know: here, medicine shines bright!
is in good hands. And if you ever need top-notch care, you now know where to go!
