Starting September 1, 2025, children under 10 will no longer need to pay for their transport tickets on the TCL network, as well as on the Rhônes buses and the Libellule network. Currently, the free rides only apply to children 4 years old and under. But that will soon be a thing of the past! Bruno Bernard, the ecologist president of the Lyon Metropolis and Sytral, announced this great news on social media on November 8, 2024.

"We will propose to the Sytral Council that all children under 10, with a free travel card, can travel for free across the entire TCL network + Rhônes buses + Libellule network," declared the president of the Lyon Metropolis and Sytral. This will redefine family mobility by making public transport more accessible than ever.

A free ride that extends across the whole region

As a reminder, the TCL network is the backbone of transportation in the metropolis, while the Rhônes buses serve the northern communities,

the west and south around Lyon. The Libellule network, for its part, ensures trips within the municipalities of the Villefranche-Beaujolais-Saône urban community. This extension of free services will benefit a wide area, positively impacting the daily lives of families throughout the region.

With this measure, Sytral aims to encourage the use of public transport from a very young age, while providing significant financial support to parents. This decision aligns with the Metropolis' commitment to greener and more accessible mobility for everyone and comes just a few days after the announcement of the increase in TCL subscription prices in 2025. So, are you ready to hop on the tram or bus with your family without spending a single penny?
