You know the Rhônexpress, this shuttle that connects Part-Dieu to Lyon Airport, certainly fast but also the most expensive in France? Well, good news! The Metropolis of Lyon and Sytral have just announced the launch of a bus line between Vaulx-en-Velin La Soie and the Lyon airport starting in September 2025. Instead of spending 16.70 euros for a one-way ticket (10.30 euros for 12-25 year olds), you will be able to reach the airport for the price of a TCL ticket, which is less than 2 euros. Who said traveling had to be expensive?
An alternative to the Rhônexpress? The goal of this new line is clear: "strengthening the cohesion of the territories and offering residents of the East of the Lyon metropolitan area a high-performance network of TCL", according to the Metropolis and Sytral. With its 18 stops...tions, it will serve strategic points such as the Boulevard des Droits de l'Homme in Vaulx-en-Velin, the roundabout of Les Sept Chemins, the town centers of Chassieu and Genas, before reaching the airport.
In total, it will take 40 minutes to complete the journey, compared to 30 minutes with the Rhônexpress, which has the huge advantage of departing from Lyon Part-Dieu station.
An eco-friendly and convenient bus journey
The buses on this new route will run on natural gas, offering a more sustainable transport option. During peak hours, a bus will pass every ten minutes, ensuring a smooth and efficient service. In detail, the 17.5-kilometer route will pass through the Boulevard des Droits de l'Homme in Vaulx-en-Velin, the Seven Roads roundabout (in the municipalities of Bron and Décines-Charpieu), and will make stops in the city centers of Chassieu, via Route de Lyon, and Genas, via Rue de la République. A great cost-effective alternative to the Rhônexpress for travelers who are willing to add a few extra minutes to their journey to Lyon Saint-Exupéry airport.
