Continental rugby is setting up shop in Lyon for an epic finale. The EPCR has officially chosen Lyon to host the finals of the European Rugby Champions Cup and the EPCR Challenge Cup for the 2026-2027 season. The dates are set for Friday, May 21, and Saturday, May 22, 2027, at the Groupama Stadium, which is better known to football fans as OL Stadium.
A stadium that is already experiencing the thrill...
nsonThe OL Stadium is no stranger to hosting big events. The Decines stadium had already welcomed these finals back in 2016. At that time, the Saracens triumphed over Racing 92 (21-9) in the Champions Cup final, while Montpellier Hérault Rugby clinched the Challenge Cup against the Harlequins (26-19). It was an edition that has left lasting memories.
With 2027, France will host the final of the grand European Cup for the sixth time, following Bordeaux, Paris, Saint-Denis, Lyon, and Marseille. This shows that the Hexagon remains an unmissable destination!
of European rugby.
A deeply rooted French tradition
The last final held in France already provided a legendary scenario. In 2022, Stade Rochelais triumphed against Leinster Rugby (24-21) in Marseille. That same year, Lyon OU lifted the Challenge Cup after their victory over RC Toulon (30-12). You could say Lyon knows how to host... and win.

To make these finals truly unforgettable, we need to count on the French clubs. The top eight from the Top 14 will grab their tickets to the Champions Cup, while the next six will qualify for the Challenge Cup. Currently sitting in 10th place, LOU will need to work hard to dream of a home title...
One thing is for sure: for two days, Lyon will become the epicenter of European rugby. And the Groupama Stadium might just shake like in its glory days.
