It’s a wonderful recognition for Lyon and for all cycling tourism in France. Chosen as the European cycle route of the year 2026 at the Fiets en Wandelbeurs fair in Utrecht, The Voie Bleue stands out as a key route on the Old Continent. This trail, nearly 700 kilometers long, connects Lyon to Apach, at the Luxembourg border, following watercourses through a backdrop that alternates between breathtaking nature and charming heritage.

An international distinction that also highlights the Metropolis of Lyon, a strategic link in the route.
25.5 km in the heart of the Metropolis of Lyon
In Lyon, La Voie Bleue is a tangible and well-frequented reality. Over 25.5 kilometers, the route crosses nine municipalities, including Collonges-au-Mont-d'Or and Neuville-sur-Saône, providing a mostly flat profile. It’s a fantastic playground for families, casual cyclists, and even seniors who want to pedal without tackling Alpe d’Huez.

The European jury praised the clarity of the signage, safety, comfort of the pavement, and beautiful landscapes. The accessibility to public transport enhances the appeal, just like the presence of over 60 bike-friendly facilities certified as Accueil Vélo in the area. It’s perfect for organizing a completely hassle-free weekend of gentle mobility!
12 million euros invested for a more bike-friendly territory
This award validates an ambitious cycling policy. Since the beginning of the term, 12 million euros have been invested locally, with the support of the Green Fund and FEDER, to improve infrastructure and promote bike tourism in Lyon.
