Lyon will soon offer its residents a new dream perch to admire the city. A hidden gem of a viewpoint is in the works that promises stunning views everywhere you look!
eacute;, until now inaccessible, perched on the hill of Fourvière and ready to unveil itself for the first time: the belvedere of the Saint-Just bastion. On the sidelines of the very ambitious project of the Balmes park, the City has just announced, discreetly but with a good dose of pride, the opening of this 700 m² esplanade, which is right next to the Jardin des Curiosités. The land, owned by the State and managed by Voies Navigables de France, will be made available to the City for free, according to information from Tribune de Lyon. The plan includes securing the site, planting low vegetation, adding barriers, and even creating a door to connect it to the neighboring garden. In short, it’s a natural and poetic extension that promises to become a new landmark for those who enjoy contemplative walks and moments suspended above the city.
A 100% Nature Route Between Saint-Jean and Fourvière

These two announcements are strengthening a flagship project of the Greens, just in time for the 2026 municipal elections. Naturally, the cost is also rising: from 4.7 to 8.5 million euros. But at that price, Lyon residents will be able to (re)fall in love with their city from the heights, in a slow, green, and panoramic way.
