Tourism in Rhône-Alpes achieves a new milestone! With 8.1 million overnight stays recorded between January and March 2025 on platforms like Airbnb, Booking, and Expedia, the region ranks second in the European leaderboard by Eurostat. Just behind the Canary Islands (8.8 million) but ahead of Andalusia (7.7 million), Rhône-Alpes confirms its exceptional appeal during the winter season.
In their annual report, the Metropolis of Lyon and OnlyLyon Tourism and Congress had already highlighted the sector's vitality: 42,000 jobs, an increase in overnight stays, longer stays, and especially a rise in foreign clientele. Eurostat has now backed up these figures with a broader view at the regional level.

A vibrant energy that also benefits Lyon and its region
While Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport remains a strategic entry point for international visitors, it's the alpine ski resorts that really boost the traffic. From Chamonix to the 3 Valleys, including Alpe d'Huez and Tignes, the ski areas attract a global clientele every year, making Rhône-Alpes a true powerhouse of European tourism.

A ranking that puts Île-de-France far behind. With "only" 5.6 million overnight stays during the same period, the Paris region can't compete with the allure of the mountains. This contrast highlights how travelers' expectations have evolved, with more and more people favoring active and immersive stays in stunning natural settings.
