Dreaming of a weekend escape from Lyon without sacrificing the good life? Head to Yenne, in Savoy, on October 3rd and 4th for the Savoy Cheese Festival, featuring tastings, local producers, entertainment, and culinary heritage.

A 100% Cheese Weekend on the Rhône

Just 1.5 hours from Lyon, the village of Yenne will host this year's Savoie Cheese Festival, in the heart of the Dent du Chat region. Set along the Rhône, this event promises two full days to discover authentic Savoyard specialties straight from the people who make them.

This edition will have a special flavor since the festival takes place in the heart of Tomme de Savoie PGI territory, celebrating 30 years of Protected Geographical Indication this year. Tomme, Abondance AOP and Reblochon AOP will take center stage through demonstrations, tastings, recipe workshops and delicious pairings.

Cows, cheesemakers and plenty of know-how

The festival is mainly an opportunity to discover what goes into making Savoyard cheeses, with producers on hand throughout the weekend to share their craft and techniques. Visitors will also get to meet several local breeds, from Tarentaise to Abondance cattle via Montbéliarde, as well as Chamois and Savoyard goats.

Milking demonstrations, sheepdog trials, agricultural equipment and a mini-farm will give you a close-up look at what farmers do every day. An experience perfectly suited to families, with plenty of activities for kids, from wooden games to pony rides and workshops to pedal tractors.

A trail race with a food stop that'll make you hungry

The big highlight of this year's edition: the Tomme de Savoie Trail will kick off on Sunday, October 4th at 10am for an 11-kilometer loop. Runners will finish right in the heart of the festivities, with a delicious food stop at the finish line. Because in Savoy, even sports apparently end up talking cheese.

The weekend will also be filled with a gourmet market, concerts, and a dedicated space for the Savoy Cheese Route. This route brings together 60 sites spread across both Savoy departments, featuring farms, cooperatives and museums, so you can keep discovering long after the weekend ends.
