Every summer, as the cicadas give way to the sounds of the city settling down, the Cinema Under the Stars festival reignites the flame of cinema in the Abbey Square of Ainay. And for this 23rd edition, the organizers have really gone all out... or rather wide, with a giant screen measuring 10x7 meters and 600 chairs patiently waiting for their audience. Four free evenings from July 15 to 18, 2025 to restore to cinema its primary function: bringing people together, evoking emotions, sparking reflection... and dreaming together beneath the stars of the 2nd arrondissement.
A rich and completely free program
In this postcard-perfect setting — a Romanesque facade from the 12th century, a cobblestone square, a village atmosphere right in the city center — the Quartier Libre association offers us a new dive into our collective memory with a powerful theme: Fighting Against Forgetting. And let me tell you, this program really hits the mark. We kick off the festivities with a bang...
On July 15th, we’ll kick off with Aftersun, the bittersweet gem by Charlotte Wells, which stirs up childhood memories with the delicacy of a summer dream. Then on July 16th, we have Memento by Christopher Nolan, a time puzzle that both confuses and fascinates us. On July 17th, the masterpiece Goodbye Lenin! will awaken the memory of reunified Germany through the love of a son for his mother. Lastly, on July 18th, the illustrious Hayao Miyazaki’s Porco Rosso will wrap things up with poetry, mustaches, and red planes. In short, this selection is more than just a simple film marathon; it’s an invitation to remember together, to (re)see the world through the magic of the big screen, in a unique place where heritage and cinema converse every evening. And all of this is free! So grab your cozy sweater and come early to snag your spot!
se, and let the magic happen. Because under the stars, stories shine a little brighter.
