In the sloping streets of Saint-Just, under the serene plane trees of the Cercle St Irénée, early summer Fridays feel like a charming movie night. For four years, the neighborhood association has been nurturing a festival that we love: Cinema Under the Plane Trees, a delightful cinematic break to enjoy outdoors on a boules court transformed into a darkened room under the stars. And this year, once again, the lineup makes you want to set down your folding chair and open your eyes wide.
An Absolutely Perfect Program
This year, the program is sharper than ever! The kick-off is on June 27 with an absolute classic for young and old: My Neighbor Totoro by master Miyazaki. Magic, forest, and a giant cat-bus, it’s a feel-good evening for the whole family. On July 4, a shift in tone (and temperature) comes with Furiosa, the latest Mad Max. It’s raw, it’s exhilarating...t’s visual, it’s rock ‘n’ road: forbidden for those under 12, but highly recommended for fans of action and post-apocalyptic sweat.
Free entry for children and members
On July 11, let yourself be carried away by the vibes of country music with Walk the Line, the feverish biopic about Johnny Cash. Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon tug at your heartstrings in this film that blends romance with musical redemption. And to wrap things up, on July 18, we’ll showcase a rare gem: The Night of the Hunter. This masterpiece, set against the haunting shadows of “LOVE” and “HATE” tattooed on the chilling fingers of Robert Mitchum, closes the festival on a note that is both poetic and terrifying.
The cherry on top: all screenings are free for children and members. For others? Just €4 a ticket, which is cheaper than…a popcorn cone at the multiplex. It’s happening at 32 rue des Anges in the 5th, and it’s definitely worth the detour.
