The Editor

Forget about tram 92, we’re off in a carriage! This summer, Brussels is putting on its finest outfit and reversing its boots to welcome the Brussels Renaissance Festival, and let me tell you: the city has never been so regal. From May 18 to July 4, 2025, the cobblestones of Brussels will echo with the sounds of fifes, period dances, and epic tales from the time of Charles V, that good old sovereign who made Brussels his main residence. For over a month, the people of Brussels – and all curious visitors – are invited to lose themselves in the splendor of the 16th century.

An Immersion into Medieval Brussels

This festival offers a true immersion into the past, but with a lively and quirky twist. There will be guided tours of the capital's heritage gems (Maison du Roi, Notre-Dame du Sablon Church, City Hall…), and street performances featuring verbal jousts and demonstrations of...;épée, and even family workshops to get acquainted with the delicate art of the crossbow at the Coudenberg Palace. The little ones become pages, while the grown-ups dream of being knights — in short, the Renaissance makes its way into our hearts as well as our streets.

A spectacular finale

The highlight of the show is, of course, the Ommegang, THE historical Brussels procession, coming in with great fanfare on July 2nd and 4th at 9 PM, featuring no less than 1,400 performers in costumes. A monumental staging that brings the Grand Place to life as it was during the grand imperial receptions. An outdoor historical wonder where each spectator becomes a witness to the past. So let's polish our court accent, brush up on a few “monsieur mayor” phrases, and reserve our ticket on their website!ommegang.be (from €45 to €85) so you won’t miss this spectacular royal time travel experience.
