It's one of those exhibitions that you never saw coming, but instantly makes you want to hop on a train to Valence. Since April 9th, the Valence Museum has unveiled a selection that would make any major cultural capital pale with envy. Matisse graces the exhibition with 20 plates from his legendary album Jazz — graphic gems gifted by the artist himself back in the day and now beautifully preserved at the Latour-Maubourg media library. It's already stunning. But that's just the beginning.

The greatest artists gathered in a unique exhibition

Because starting May 31st, the museum will step up its game with the arrival of sculptures by Alberto Giacometti, as part of an extraordinary loan signed by the Musée d'Orsay. Yes, that very museum that usually doesn't lend out its stars so easily. And yet, here come the elongated figures...

The lights and tormented figures of Giacometti are showcased in a monographic space custom-made for the occasion. It's a rare dive into the world of the Swiss master, from the 40s to the 60s, just melancholic enough to enhance your visit.

But the museum in Valence won’t stop there. Thanks to the bequest from collector Philippe Meyer, 22 works from the Musée Granet in Aix-en-Provence will also arrive. Chardin, Guardi, Boudin, Klee, Léger, Van Velde, De Staël, and even Picasso himself: just that. It’s safe to say that the walls are now overflowing with modernity, in a completely redesigned journey to welcome this fine group.

With this XXL exhibition, the Valence museum is putting on a lovely show. Between artistic boldness and big names, the experience promises to be just as accessible as it is dazzling. In short, if you were looking for a reason to rediscover the Drôme, you've just found it.
