Located in the 4th arrondissement of Lyon, the Villa Gillet has entered a renovation phase since spring 2026. Nestled in the lush surroundings of the Chazière Park, this iconic villa is getting a makeover with a project estimated at 3.15 million euros. The goal: to modernize the building while respecting its identity, with completion planned for the end of 2027. This upgrade promises to be both strategic and symbolic for the cultural scene in Lyon.

A villa reimagined for the uses of tomorrow

The plan includes a deep transformation to adapt the space to new cultural practices. Thermal insulation, electrical updates, and accessibility…

cute; reinforced… the Villa Gillet is clearly stepping into a new era. The spaces are completely reimagined: the attic will now host offices and writers' residences, accessible via an elevator. On the ground floor, there's a cozy area with a kitchen and bar, designed to bring literature and life moments together.

Renovation isn't just about looks: it also transforms the cultural experience. The underground theater will be modernized with retractable seating, providing total flexibility for various events. Another trendy addition is the creation of podcast studios, showing that Villa Gillet is eager to embrace new forms of storytelling. It's a mix of literary tradition and contemporary formats.

A must-visit hub for the literary world

Already at the heart of the literary ecosystem, Villa Gillet aims to strengthen its role as a cultural crossroads. The venue hosts the Villa Gillet association, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Book and Reading or even the festival Quais du Polar. The goal is clear: to develop residencies for authors and translators, in connection with the UNESCO Creative Cities network. In short, to make this place a true laboratory of ideas.

To support this transformation, the City of Lyon has increased its financial commitment, with a grant that has been on the rise since 2023. This is a way to offset the cessation of certain aids, but above all, to affirm a desire: to keep culture at the heart of the city.
