The modernization of road surveillance is continuing on the Presqu'île of Lyon. A new automatic radar has appeared on the Rhône side, on the quai du Docteur Gailleton, in the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon, near the carpooling area. On this strategic stretch, the speed is strictly limited to 50 km/h. It's a very busy area, with commuting traffic and dense circulation in the city center.

This isn't a surprise installation, but rather a technological upgrade. A so-called “standard” unit had already been in place for several years at the same location. When contacted by Le Progrès, the prefecture...The Rhône Valley suggests a simple modernization of the existing equipment. Translation: same goal, but more efficient tools.

An invisible flash for very visible offenses

This next-generation radar operates with an infrared flash that is undetectable to the naked eye. Gone are the days of the big white flash that alerts the whole neighborhood. Now, ticketing happens in complete discretion. The device can simultaneously detect speeding and red light violations. Double vigilance for drivers in a hurry!

Running a red light is still a seriously punishable offense. Just a reminder, ignoring a traffic light results in a fine of 135 euros and a deduction of four points from your driving license. That's a combo that can quickly add up, especially in densely populated urban areas.
