We all have that "incredible places to visit one day" folder saved on Instagram. Good news: you can add this one to the list! Head over to Aywaille, in the Belgian Ardennes, where one of the most beautiful hikes in the country is hiding. Its name? Le Ninglinspo. Behind this almost unpronounceable name lies a small wild stream that winds its way through a breathtaking valley, dotted with waterfalls, natural pools, and gigantic rocks smoothed by the water.
The only torrent in Belgium
Le Ninglinspo is known as the only true torrent in Belgium. Unlike the more peaceful rivers we know, this one rushes down the Ardennes slopes with a gradient of about 7.5%, carving out an absolutely fascinating landscape over thousands of years. Throughout the seasons, the water has sculpted the rock to form natural pots, waterfalls, and translucent pools where you’d almost want to dip your feet. This place is one of the most beautiful natural treasures of the Ardennes.

A stroll that feels like a fantastic set
For about 6 kilometers, the trail runs alongside the stream, weaving between little forest paths, wooden walkways, and spots that bring you right up to the water. At every turn, the scenery changes. A waterfall cascades into an emerald pool. Further along, massive boulders seem to have been dropped there by a giant. Just a few meters later, the water glides over the rocks, forming real natural slides. The highlight is undoubtedly the famous Cascade de la Chaudière, where two streams come together in the same basin. One of the tributaries even seems to flow almost horizontally between the rocks, giving the impression of defying the laws of gravity.
Natural "jacuzzis" carved by nature
One of the curiosities of Ninglinspo is its famous erosion pots. For centuries, pebbles carried by the current have slowly carved out the rock.

An accessible hike for almost everyone
You don’t need to be a super athlete to enjoy the Ninglinspo. The loop is about 6 kilometers long and takes between two to three hours depending on your pace… and especially how many photo stops you make. The trail is rated at a medium level with some slightly steeper sections, but it’s accessible for most walkers and makes for a wonderful experience!an excellent idea for a family outing. And with just two hours of driving from Lille, it’s hard to find such an escape so easily.
