What if we talked about ghosts, the paranormal, spiritism, and mysterious things today? To do this, we have decided to tell you some strange stories that will send shivers down your spine. The theme? Those haunted houses in the North that are part of the folklore and legends we love to tell each other (whether we believe in them or not)! 

THE HAUNTED HOUSE OF HEMPEMPONT

It is one of the most famous haunted houses in France. Built in 1939 in Hem, this house was the scene of the strange death of a 5-year-old child. The parents then left the house to rent it out. It is said that several tenants followed, and none stayed for more than a month. Scared by the sounds of children laughing and crying, footsteps, etc., the successive tenants reportedly left the place terrified, with one of them even hanging himself. There were talks of demolishing it, but it was never achieved due to successive equipment failures.

The church of Nesles

Let's take a little trip to Nesles, Bonbons! Rumor has it that since 1965, the church has been haunted... Sometimes you can hear the organ playing by itself, even when the building is locked and no one is inside. Others have claimed to have seen a woman's silhouette wandering nearby...

The bleeding house of St Quentin

It's all in the title... The family living in this house would often hear strange moans or clattering noises... until the day when the walls literally started bleeding. Blood. Real blood, according to the tenants. Eventually, remains of German soldiers' bodies from the First World War were discovered when the house was demolished. Creepy, right?

The lighthouse of Calais

Many people claim to have felt the presence of ghosts near this lighthouse. Sounds, shadows, voices... The whole package. The president of Opale Tour stated in 2013 in La Voix du Nord: "Yes, I can confirm that I have witnessed surprising, inexplicable phenomena, like other employees of Opale Tour before me. Several of us have shared the feeling that we were not alone in a room, that we heard footsteps. We got used to it, we don't sense anything bad."

From this scary house, only a few walls remain. Legend has it that a man hanged himself here after discovering his wife's infidelities... He would have taken his own life out of grief. Whatever the case, the place, the architecture, are downright creepy...
