Lille VS Paris: why do we live better here?

You often wondered why this new "buddy" (the guy you met during your studies) insisted, to anyone who would listen, that he didn't live in the North but in Paris. These words were often said with a touch of controlled casualness. Fair enough. And now, 7 years later, you wonder why this "buddy" still lives in Lille and hasn't returned to the capital? Even if he'll never admit it, we have the answer!

Real estate prices:

What your buddy didn't tell you is that he, his parents, and his 3 siblings probably live in a broom closet for an outrageous rent. Strangely, here he has a living room and a bedroom. Even worse, to find a rental in Paris, you will have to battle it out against a hundred competitors. But hey, whoever is lucky enough to unpack their bags in a 20m2 apartment for 900 euros will need 2 guarantors and earn 3 times the rent in salary. We'll let you do the math. In the meantime, we'll go for a run in our living room.

Transportation:

So yes, of course, Paris is a very big city while Lille... Not really. And for sure, the capital city is extremely well served. But to be fair, Parisians don't have much of a choice but to spend A LOT of time on the metro or RER. The downside is that if you want to grab a beer with friends, you might have to travel for about 30 to 45 minutes by metro to meet up. In Lille, in our little town, you've walked maximum 20 minutes in the cold. But at least while your Parisian friend is on public transportation, you and your Lille buddies have already enjoyed 2 drinks.

Alcohol (just to be clear!):

Let's not even beat around the bush on this topic. The prices, my goodness, the prices! A round in Paris would cost you 3 rounds in Lille. And let's not even talk about the quality of the beer, please. It truly is a delicate subject.

The geographical situation: 

Ok ok... Once again Paris, its train stations and airports are top-notch. But we're not so bad off either! We are close to beautiful capitals for an unexpected tourist weekend! Amsterdam, Brussels, London... Pretty cool to be able to take off on a whim, right? 

The food:

Once again, however, we can't deny the culinary excellence found in Paris! But, every now and then, a good carbonade, a good welsh rarebit, a chicken with Maroilles cheese, warms the heart, doesn't it? 

The people of Lille: 

The thing that everyone can agree on is the warm character of the people of Lille. It's already well known, we are welcoming, smiling... As much as it can be cold here, we have plenty of warmth within us! And how many times has your Parisian friend told you how integrated they felt as soon as they set foot on the cobblestones of our beautiful city...
