1. The Citadel of Lille: the HQ for Joggers
We can’t talk about running in Lille without mentioning the Citadel. With its wooded avenues, moats, and curious squirrels, it’s THE must-visit spot to break a sweat gently. There are several loops of different distances, perfect for keeping things fresh and avoiding routine.
The little extra : Running in “historical” mode is always more motivating.
2. The Héron Park in Villeneuve-d’Ascq
110 hectares of greenery, a lake, pedestrian and cycling paths… Le Parc du Héron is a green lung that's super accessible from Lille. Breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the picturesque landscapes, especially at sunrise (hello, Instagram feed).
Tip: In the morning, it's peaceful and the view of the water is stunning.
3. Parc Barbieux in Roubaix
A little urban gem, Parc Barbieux offers a nature trail that's perfect for a run. Its lawns, water features, and tall trees give you a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. It's great for a sporty lunch break or a courageous Sunday morning run.
Why we love it: The peaceful atmosphere, just a stone’s throw from the center.
4. The banks of the Deûle
Strolling along the Deûle River offers you a "semi-countryside" landscape right at the gates of Lille. The gentle splash of the water and the view of nature definitely make it worth your while. You can even venture all the way to Saint-André or Quesnoy-sur-Deûle if your legs are up for it!
Bonus: It’s also perfect for a bike ride, adding a little variety to your outdoor fun.
5. Parc Mosaic and the Marque Plain
Head towards Houplin-Ancoisne, right at the gates of Lille, for a run at the Mosaic Park. With themed gardens, wide open spaces, and no cars in sight… it’s a little haven of peace! For those feeling extra motivated, extend your run to the plain of Marque for a true nature boost.
Vibe: Calm and lovely, it's the perfect spot to clear your mind.
6. Public stadiums
Want a track to measure your performance? Some stadiums in the metropolis (like the Stadium in Villeneuve-d'Ascq or others in Marcq-en-Barœul) open their doors outside of club slots. Perfect for speed intervals or structured training.
The bonus: A soft surface that protects your joints.
7. The Hippodrome of Marcq-en-Barœul
When there are no races, the Marcq Hippodrome becomes a space where some enthusiasts come to jog or take a brisk walk. The environment is airy and quite green, far from cars. Perfect for changing things up and enjoying a slightly different backdrop.
Attention: Make sure to check the schedules, access is not always open to the public.
8. The Phalempin Forest
About twenty minutes from Lille, the Phalempin Forest takes you into lush greenery. The shaded trails and peaceful atmosphere do wonders for the soul. It's perfect for a run that's a little more "wild" than in an urban park.
Good to know: Weekends can be busy, but the place is spacious enough to find your little corner of fresh air.
So, ready to lace up your sneakers?
With these 8 spots, you have no excuse to skip your running session. Winter (or any other season) shouldn't discourage you: a bit of fresh air, invigorating landscapes… everything is here to keep you super motivated. Come on, I'll see you on the track!
