The most gourmet: discover the famous local cheese at Maison du Comté

© Alain_DOIRE__BFC_Tourisme
The Jura Mountains is the homeland of one of the most famous cheeses in French gastronomy: Comté. Just like any good capital, the Jura department is home to the Comté House, located in the town of Poligny. With remarkable and typical architecture, the Comté House is divided into three distinct buildings that represent the three links in this solid chain: milk producers, cheese makers, and maturing experts. The program includes an immersive journey through the five senses with films, initiations, sensory games for children... and most importantly, a cheese bar to taste these wonders!

The Jura Mountains are also home to many holes, cavities, and caves (over 20,000 in total) that have been shaped over millions of years beneath your feet. So it would be a shame not to take advantage of your stay to embark on a fascinating and appetizing journey to the center of the earth (with even a unique concept like a cave-fondue adventure guided by Noa Guides in certain caves, yes indeed). Among the must-visit spots, we highly recommend the Grottes du Cerdon, which offer a natural cathedral carved into the limestone. Sensations and wonder guaranteed!

The ultimate thrill: soaring in the sky with paragliding or ziplining

© Jacques Jeanpierre
Between lakes, mountains, waterfalls, and other lush forests, the Jura Mountains are full of natural wonders to explore without moderation. But as our human condition sometimes forces us, we decide to take to the skies paragliding to discover the richness of the landscapes. Whether in a tandem paragliding flight with a qualified instructor or even in solo initiation courses, the sensations will be there and you will definitely be amazed. And for the most courageous, the Faucille zipline, the steepest in France (905m long and 312.7m of elevation difference) awaits you...

The most exotic: meeting unusual animals at the Llama Farm

© Catherine_DEMOLY__BFC_Tourisme
The Jura Mountains, this land of llamas! As surprising as it may seem, the region is home to one of the few llama farms in France, where more than 50 llamas and alpacas (accompanied by other animals) form a herd that can be discovered in total immersion. A moment of change of scenery during which both young and old can learn more about the life but also the habits, ecological benefits, and the quality of the wool of these animals unfamiliar to us. The Jura Mountains are truly like Peru!
