L'Arrière Pays: toasties that hit the spot

Let's start this list with a restaurant that always brings joy: L'Arrière Pays! Here, it's all about toasties, toasties, and more toasties! The place is surprisingly spacious, ensuring that we always find a table available no matter the time (even late at night), and the decoration is top-notch with its red brick walls and contemporary details. Two options are available here: the first one for 10.90 euros includes two toasties of your choice (plenty filling given their size), and for the hungry ones, you can opt for the 12.90 euro formula for 3 toasties! A piece of advice? Don't hesitate to try the "boxed" toastie (Serrano ham and camembert cheese gratinated with nuts and raisins), it's to die for!

Metro, Work, Paupau: Spanish pintxos

There is a pretty original little restaurant bar that opened a while ago on the (very) gourmet street of Old Lille: rue Saint-André. Metro, Work, Paupau: a name that makes you smile and makes you want to stop by. What's on offer? It's a Spanish stopover as it is a pintxos bar! On the bar, the pintxos are divided into two categories: cold tapas and hot tapas. Each of them is topped with a colored toothpick that indicates the price per piece (between 2 and 4 euros each). Overall at the table, here's what we tested: bolognaise croquettes, carrot and curry croquette, pan-fried brie, tuna rillette with aioli.Olive, stuffed gherkin and sweet and sour sauce, stuffed pepper, goat cheese and tomato jam, ham and manchego toast...  The pintxos change every week and of course we recommend it with a jug of homemade sangria !

Le Georges V: Lille's best welsh

Le Georges V, you might know it for buying cigarettes or having a beer. This tobacco bar on Boulevard de L...Freedom actually hides a well-known treasure for true Lillois: the best Welsh rarebit in the metropolis. A completely atypical setting, a VERY top welcome, humor, warmth, friendliness, and unbeatable prices. If you don't want Welsh (seriously???), you can choose between a tartiflette, a toast with Maroilles cheese, and all sorts of little things we love. And all at very low prices of course. Pair it with a pitcher of red wine or a pint and you're looking at less than 20 euros. Ps: we are not responsible if you end up buying lots of scratch cards during the evening (like we did) and the bill ends up climbing... Unless you hit the jackpot but that's a whole other story.

Creperie Suzette: the cheapest (and best) pancakes in Lille

Creperie Suzette celebrates the purest Breton tradition by offering us delicious pancakes with fresh products. In addition to being super tasty and affordable, we love the cute names of the pancakes, each named after old-fashioned first names. You can taste the Monette (scrambled eggs, salmon, lemon - €8) or the Josette (burrata, lamb's lettuce salad, sun-dried tomatoes and pesto - €11.50). No pancake costs more than €11.50; perfect for treating yourself with dessert. And that's when we truly fall for it because our favorite, the Colette (butter and sugar - classic but truly effective), is only €2. Or, you can go all out with the famous Suzette with Grand Marnier for only €5! In short, we'll let you do the math. Your new favorite spot? It sure looks like it!

Okay, the last one is a bit of a cheat but let's do it anyway:

The Bloemeke: Florent Ladeyn's cheapest address

The Bloemeke is the hidden restaurant above Bierbuik on Ro...Yale. And let's be clear, it's the cheapest of star chef Florent Ladeyn's establishments. Here, we offer you an unbeatable menu: starter, main course, dessert and drink for only... 25€! The concept is pretty cool too: a blind menu. You won't know what you're tasting until the dishes arrive in front of you. Beforehand, we'll just ask if you have any specific dietary requirements or allergies. Having been there several times, we've tasted delicious and sometimes... unique things: revisited pot au feu, thyme and cucumber ice cream, veal loin and gnocchi, perfect egg with haddock and red cabbage, and even chicken hearts! A must-try to discover this chef's innovative cuisine! Needless to say, but we'll say it anyway: book WELL in advance.
