Calais, the French capital of sunshine (at least for a month)

It's hard to believe when you think about the often temperamental skies of the North. And yet, it's indeed Calais that snagged the title of the sunniest city in France in March 2025, just ahead of Nice by a nose. The result? An atmosphere worthy of the start of summer!
```e;té : jogging in the sun, reading in beach cabins, wearing a straw hat, and smiles from ear to ear. Even though, let’s be honest, the icy wind did try to be a spoilsport.The North Blessed by the Stars (Literally)
For those curious about the weather, this little miracle can be explained by a series of well-placed depressions: one off the coast of Portugal, another towards Greece, and a lovely anticyclone stuck in between that kept the nice weather in the North. The result: 40% more sunshine than usual for the region, according to Agate Météo. So, even the weather can surprise us.
“You shouldn’t say it too much…”
The people of Calais are enjoying it quietly. Reading in the sun, strolling along the seafront, and cozy cafés sheltered from the wind… The atmosphere felt like a dolce vita version of the North. And some cheekily say: “Don’t shout about it too much, or everyone will show up!” We can totally understand the desire to keep this secret.
And now, are we aiming for April?
Good news for fans of blue skies: the nice weather is expected to continue in the coming days, with a slight rise in temperatures. So yes, we’ll keep our puffer jackets close at hand (we’re in the North, we shouldn’t overdo it), but we can already dream of an equally bright April. And who knows, maybe Calais will defend its new title as "the sunniest city in France." Stay tuned!
