No fan zone as 1.5 million spectators will cram into the streets of Lille
It's official, just in... The City of Lille has just announced that, no, there will be no fan zone for the Olympics. And yet, nearly 1.5 million spectators are expected in the capital of Flanders for the 2024 Olympics. We wonder where we will be able to fit all these people. The answer is simple: at the bar and it will be a war to find a table.
With Handball and Basketball events taking place in Lille, our city will be overrun by spectators and tourists which is, all in all, normal. However, despite a request from Mrs. Aubry, it is the Prefecture that has said a firm "no". A question of security, obviously.
Sports activities to balance it all out
If there's no fan zone, the City of Lille still plans to have an Olympic village with activities on the Grand Place but not only there: the whole city will be decked out in Olympic colors. There will be activities to discover certain sports all around the Lille metropolis.
