If some were already imagining a new tram line passing through the city center of Lille, the City of Lille doesn't quite see things the same way. "The route of the future tramway is planned to run on the west side of the city in order to connect the 3 sectors of the north, south, and west of the city," explains the city hall. The goal is to "bring the tramway to the neighborhoods of Faubourg de Béthune, Bois-Blancs, Lille-Sud, Moulins, Fives." A deliberate political choice that the city hall explains as an environmental and social necessity. Added to this is also the desire for urban renewal and economic development of these neighborhoods. If the City of Lille chooses to exclude the city center from the project, it is also because it believes that the center is already well served.
Here is the potential future path of the new tram line:

Take a stroll to discover the future tram stops
The City of Lille is organizing an urban walk on March 20, 2024 at 11:45 am to explore the future stops of the tram line. The meeting point is at Porte des Postes at the new Administrative City. Explanations will be provided along the way and we will finally know the exact route of the tram.
"We will walk through Place de la Porte des Postes from the new Administrative City. General explanations about the tram project will be provided during the journey and at planned stops along the route. This walk is an opportunity to discover the layout of the future tram project, assess the functionality of the existing square, and ask any questions you may have."
