The Ultimate Macumba of France, Really?

In the 80s, France was buzzing with over 4,000 nightclubs. And in this vast playground, the Macumba ruled supreme: a bit of kitschy decor, disco balls galore, and disco hits playing on repeat. In Englos (which many affectionately called "Macumba Lille"), people came in groups or solo to dance until the early hours, their hair shaken by the Saturday night fever. That's why its closure feels like a wave of nostalgia, both for the regulars and the night owls curious about the scene.

From Dazzling Seventies to 2025

Born in 1975, this Macumba has welcomed generations of clubbers. Some discovered disco on its dance floor, while others experienced their first slow dance (or their first rejection, no judgment here!). The club has seen all the trends come and go, surfed the massive techno wave, and kept its spotlights shining while many other clubs pulled down their curtains. Today, it stands as the last remnant of a time when people would gather under disco mirrors to dance until dawn.

Last dance: February 22 and 23

Before permanently closing its doors, Macumba promises a grand finale on the weekend of February 22 and 23. For this closing act, the club will open its doors at 3 PM this Sunday, giving everyone a chance for one last dance in an atmosphere that's both nostalgic and electrifying. Loyal patrons, already with tears in their eyes, are flooding social media with memories of unforgettable nights.

A bittersweet (and slightly nostalgic) closure

It's hard to say goodbye to a place that has made our Saturday nights buzz with excitement and witnessed so many stories unfold. More than just a twinge of sadness, we feel a tremendous gratitude for this club that has shone bright in the North for nearly fifty years. So, for this final chance to hit the dancefloor where your grandparents, parents, or both may have danced under the tropical lights, slip on your favorite bell-bottom jeans, your snug shirt (not too snug though), and fluff up that mullet! We're saying farewell to this monument of French clubbing on February 22 and 23, 2025. It's definitely something to check off your bucket list, right?
