Lille under the sun while the South is drowning: the weather is playing tricks this week!

After a record-breaking February 2026 with lots of rain, France is split in two. On one side, a well-established anticyclone is hanging out over northern Europe. On the other side, a depression moving in from the south is threatening the Mediterranean regions. The result: France is experiencing a “backward” weather pattern, and Lille is clearly benefiting from it.

A Taste of Spring in Lille (and the Hauts-de-France)

Since Monday, the vibe has been set: cool but bright mornings, mild afternoons, and a mostly sunny sky over the Lille metropolis. Temperatures are ranging between 13 and 17°C during the day, with even some spots reaching 18°C in certain inland areas of the Hauts-de-France. From the Lille area to the Oise valley, the sun is shining brightly, with only a few harmless clouds passing by. The wind is calm, the atmosphere is peaceful, and it feels like spring is well on its way!

a real delight. In other words: terrace, jogging in the park, lunch break in the sun… we’re in!

Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are expected to continue this sweet and sunny spell. Having several consecutive days without rain in March in the North is quite rare and deserves a highlight. It really feels like a little taste of April ahead of time!

Meanwhile, the South faces the threat of Storm Regina

On the flip side, the southern half...u is getting ready to experience a whole new atmosphere. A depression named Regina, traveling from North Africa through Spain, is making its way towards the Mediterranean basin. Regions like Hérault, Gard, Aude, and the Pyrénées-Orientales are under close watch. Intense rains are expected between Thursday and Friday, with a risk of Mediterranean episodes on soils already saturated from the heavy downpours in February. Some areas might also see the sky turn ochre due to the influx of Saharan sand.

The contrast is striking: in the north of the Seine and the northeast, the weather remains generally dry and sunny. Further south, the atmosphere becomes unstable, humid, and occasionally stormy. It’s like a weather map split in two!

A Mildness That Raises Questions

While Lille enjoys this almost spring-like sunshine, meteorologists remind us that these temperatures, which are well above seasonal norms, are not to be taken lightly. A warmer atmosphere holds more water vapor, which can lead to more intense rainy episodes elsewhere. For now, in the North, we’re just soaking it all in. But a slight change might begin by the end of the week or over the weekend, with a few signals of localized showers to keep an eye on. Nothing alarming, just a gentle reminder that March is still March.

In the meantime, let’s not be picky: sunshine in Lille, umbrella in Marseille. It’s the upside-down world of weather, and for once, we’re on the sunny side.
