A piece of Lille is transforming (and your routine will have to keep up)
The city of Lille continues its urban and green transformation, and now it's the Place du Maréchal Leclerc that’s getting a makeover. The goal? To turn this bustling intersection on the border of Wazemmes and Vauban-Esquermes into a real public park. More nature, more tranquility, more space for gentle mobility! But before we can enjoy the flowers and benches in the shade of the trees, we’ll need to adapt to some traffic changes starting April 22.
New traffic directions (and quite a few changes)
The Rue des Frères Vaillant is changing direction: you can now drive from the Place du Maréchal Leclerc towards Rue des Stations. The Rue Auber is now one-way, headed only towards Rue Philippe-Laurent Roland. On the other side, …acute; transports, lthe Colbert bus stops and the V’Lille Leclerc station will be temporarily relocated, just like the spots reserved for car-sharing. For residents, no need to panic: access is still possible outside of construction hours. But it's best to plan ahead if you tend to leave things to the last minute.
Why is this happening? For a good reason (promise)

This project is part of a broader goal: to create a calmer and more breathable city. In the long run, the square will transform into a large public park, designed to be an enjoyable, green space suitable for all activities. More biodiversity, more spaces for pedestrians and cyclists, less asphalt and honking. In short, a low-carbon city is gradually taking shape… even if it means rethinking your usual routes for the time being.
Stay tuned!
Don't worry if you feel a bit lost driving next week. These changes may seem technical, but they represent a new step in the transformation of Lille. And there's no doubt they'll spark conversations in the neighborhood… or over a nice strong coffee.
