A Green Lung We've All Been Hoping For

If Lille is a city we love, when it comes to green spaces, we often find ourselves wanting more. The only true natural spot to catch our breath was, until now, the Citadel and the Vauban Garden. But that's all about to change: after months of public consultations and more than 14,500 voters, the transformation of Avenue du Peuple Belge is underway. An ambitious project that will turn the old, mineral, gray corridor into a true green oasis.

Nature is reclaiming its space in the city

This future park will focus on biodiversity with a grand return of green spaces. The idea? To reintroduce nature in the heart of the historic district to create an ecological corridor in the heart of Vieux-Lille. Imagine a long tree-lined walk, relaxation areas, playgrounds for children, and even wetlands to cool the air in the summer. A sustainable project that meets all needs: a low-carbon city, permeable soils, and preserved biodiversity.

A project designed for everyone

The People of Belgium Avenue, version 2027, will be an inclusive and accessible place for all ages and all mobility types. The focus will be on walking, cycling, and soft transportation. People with reduced mobility will finally be able to enjoy an adapted natural space right in the heart of Lille. A true urban revolution, eagerly awaited by the local residents.

The memory of the place celebrated

This project also highlights the heritage and history of the neighborhood. Once a port and a key axis, the Avenue du Peuple Belge will regain a strong identity with the subtle integration of water into the landscape, reminding us of its riverine past. A charming nod to history that will give character to this future park.

Just a little more patience: the work will start in 2025, with a opening planned for 2027. We can't wait to be there!
