A city bursting with cultural activities
The study conducted by SumUp compared major French cities based on the number of museums, galleries, theaters, monuments, and free activities per inhabitant. And what’s the result? 48 free activities and 26 cultural venues for 100,000 inhabitants in Lille. In short, it’s almost impossible to get bored here!
Free cultural treasures that impress
What makes Lille so strong is that culture doesn’t mean breaking the bank: free temporary exhibitions, street festivals, monuments to admire without spending a dime… Let’s not forget the giants like the Palais des Beaux-Arts (the 2ᵉ museum in France after the Louvre), the birthplace of Charles de Gaulle, and the Gare Saint-Sauveur, which has become the artistic hub for an entire generation.

A creative scene that comes alive day and night
The perfect student city, Lille buzzes with its festivals, unique galleries, and Flemish architectural heritage that makes many neighbors envious. From the Old Stock Exchange to the colorful facades of Old Lille, it feels like stepping into a fairy tale (just the right amount). Add to that the events hosted by lille3000 and a friendly atmosphere that never dims, and you've got the recipe for why we've made it to the podium.
The winning effect for tourism
This ranking comes right in line with a trend: the French are increasingly favoring local getaways. And with its blend of culture, gastronomy, and warmth, Lille hits all the criteria. It's a boost for tourism, local businesses, and, let's be honest, our pride as Lille residents.
