Urban Developments to Expect in 2024:
A Greener Rue Pierre Mauroy with a Garden in Front of the City Hall
"This street, one of the oldest in Lille, is being renovated in three sections. For the third and final section (from Avenue Kennedy to Parc Jean-Baptiste Lebas, January 2023-early 2025), new spaces more suitable for pedestrians and cyclists will be created, thanks in part to the widening of sidewalks and the implementation of a two-way cycle path. Also planned are new plantings and the development of a true garden square in front of City Hall."
Less cars and more bicycles on Boulevard Carnot
"Goals: limit to one lane of traffic in each direction in order to reduce the space occupied by cars which currently accounts for 60% of the area, widen and beautify the sidewalks, create a secure two-way cycle lane, plant around fifty trees."
A more beautiful rue du Molinel by eliminating car space
"Goals: reduce the space occupied by cars which currently make up 80% of the area, create designated lanes for public transport and a two-way cycle path from Place de la République to the train station, widen and beautify the sidewalks, plant 150 trees, make some of the ground permeable to rainwater, enhance the heritage. Start of development works in September 2023 for a duration of 18 months."
A friendlier and greener rue Solfé
"Goals: create two secure one-way bike lanes, plant 185 trees and flower beds, create new usage areas, make part of the ground permeable to rainwater, enhance the heritage, renovate the Jeanne d'Arc, Lebon, and Sébastopol squares. The transformation of this artery (2.1 km) will continue until 2025."
Creation of a new park at Place du Maréchal Leclerc
"Ambition: create a real park that will make use of existing trees, and new relaxation areas for children, within a green setting. Improvements to pedestrian and bike paths, and anticipation of the arrival of the future high-level bus service, complement this transformation."
