A new swimming pool is coming soon to Marcq
The chosen site? The former Geldrive wasteland, located in a sports area that already has quite a few perks: golf, skate park, sports fields, fitness center, and soon, a wellness center. In short, Marcq-en-Barœul is set to become "the place to swim" in just a few years.
This project is part of the Plan Pools 2 backed by MEL, with a simple goal: to enhance the aquatic offerings across the Lille metropolitan area, support school swimming lessons, and boost high-level sports.
A water facility with everything we love (and even more)
The future swimming pool will be both sporty and fun, designed for everyone, from families to athletes. Just imagine already swimming in a Nordic outdoor pool all year round (even in winter!), or perfecting your crawl in a high-level sports pool. Let's not forget the essential learning pools and fun areas to relax with the family after some effort.
A lively and attractive place for the metropolitan area
For Damien Castelain, president of MEL, it’s clearly an ambitious choice: “By placing this future pool at the Strategic Pave site, already known for its sports facilities, we are making a structuring and accessible project choice. Not only will it enhance swimming education for the young, but it will also support demanding sports practice.”
In other words, this new swimming pool will shine a spotlight on Marcq-en-Barœul far beyond the city limits and provide the metropolis with a new must-visit spot.
A project that fits into a larger program
This aquatic center is part of the 8 major projects launched by the MEL as part of the Pool Plan 2. The goals are to support existing pools, promote school swimming lessons, and build facilities that can host high-level clubs, including a future 50-meter Olympic pool planned for Roubaix-Tourcoing. We’re just getting started with the fun!
