In Villeneuve-d’Ascq, the Museum of Mills-Jean Bruggeman is turning its historic site into a playground for the imagination. For a few hours, both young and old can enjoy free activities centered around fables and legends, featuring a show, a creative workshop, and an exploration in a giant maze.

A Giant Maze of 150 m² at the Foot of the Mill

This is definitely the activity that will attract the curious: a giant maze of 150 m² set up at the base of the flour mill. It’s a playful experience where you deliberately get lost among the paths, allowing your imagination to roam free. The concept echoes the many stories and legends where mazes symbolize adventure, quests, or simply the joy of playing at getting lost. A simple yet effective format that works wonderfully with kids, friends, or family.

Fables Performed on Stage

The afternoon will also be filled with a show inspired by the fables of Aesop and Jean de La Fontaine. The company Avec Vue sur la Mer presents La Fontaine aux Fables, a poetic performance where a faun plays, one after the other, various animals and insects.

famous stories. A show accessible from 6 years old, with several performances planned for the afternoon.

A workshop to create a legendary gnome

Children can also join a DIY workshop to make a "nuton", a little gnome from Belgian legends. Using recycled materials, everyone can create and personalize their own imaginary creature to take home. A fun and creative activity offered by Cathy from the DIY workshops.

Two historical mills to discover

Beyond the event, this is also a great opportunity to explore a heritage site.

quite unique in the Lille metropolitan area. The museum houses two pivoting windmills dating from the 18th century, both classified as Historical Monuments and still operational. Visitors can also explore the history of milling through a collection of objects related to the mills and their builders.  If the wind allows, the blades of the oil mill will even turn during the afternoon, under the watchful eye of the museum's miller.

Guided Tours and Immersive Experience

As every third Sunday of the month, there will be guided tours of the mills offered throughout the afternoon. Departures will take place every 20 minutes, with registration directly on site. And to enhance the experience, virtual reality headsets will allow you to discover the mill…; flour in a movie at 360°, accessible especially to people with reduced mobility.
