In a context where resource sovereignty, localization, and ecological issues are at the heart of every debate, Lille has decided to embrace local logic to the fullest. Starting this spring, a brand new 100% Lille mineral water is set to be gradually distributed in several public places across the city, with a clear ambition: to offer a local alternative to the big national brands.
A local water sourced from the heart of Lille
The project, named Deûl'eau, is based on a simple principle: to highlight a signature resource of the area. The water will be directly drawn from the Deûle, and then filtered using a multilayer membrane micro-osmosis process developed in partnership with several regional laboratories. According to the first details shared, this technology would eliminate 99.9997% of bacteria, organic residues, and unwanted floating microparticles, while preserving a unique mineral signature.
te;traditionally Lille-style. The result? Water described as “soft, slightly iron-rich, with a subtly vegetal finish.”A project at the crossroads of ecology and geopolitics
Behind the very local nod, the municipality carries a broader message. In a tense international context surrounding natural resources and the transportation of goods, the city wants to advocate for a more sober consumption style that relies less on long logistical chains. Producing water directly in Lille could drastically reduce transport, carbon footprint, and the usage of bottles shipped from the other end of the country. This experiment is also part of the desire to make Lille a laboratory for urban transition.
Arnaud Deslandes has already tried it!
According to the city’s communications, the mayor of Lille, Arnaud Deslandes, has personally tasted Deûle’eau during a blind tasting organized at the town hall. The verdict, shared very seriously: “a clear attack, a beautiful length in the mouth, and a true territorial identity.” Lab analyses also confirm that the water is free from pathogenic bacteria, without putrefactive agents, and meets enhanced European drinking water standards. This is surely a great way to gradually overshadow the… let’s say, more historical reputation of the Deûle.
Soon to be sold in public places!
The first Deûle’eau fountains could be installed as early as this summer in several strategic locations: train stations, sports facilities, parks, and municipal buildings.
