Since March 1, 2026, the Jardin d’Hiver at the Couvent des Ursulines has reopened its doors. And it's definitely the kind of place where you want to hang out and whip out your phone every couple of minutes.
An old boarding school transformed into a masterpiece
Head over to Wavre-Notre-Dame, Belgium. Behind its unassuming walls lies an old girls' boarding school founded in 1841. But what makes this place truly special is its artistic shift at the end of the 19th century. Out with the classic styles, in with Art Nouveau, featuring bold decor designed to appeal to wealthy families of the time. Mission accomplished: the place quickly gained international fame and became a true architectural showcase. Even today, it's easy to see why.

A unique greenhouse that changes everything
The heart of the show is the Winter Garden. An immense, colorful greenhouse, crafted down to the smallest detail, that bathes the room in an almost unreal light. Floral patterns, multicolored stained glass, plays of transparency... you truly feel like you're in a perpetual springtime, no matter the weather outside. It's poetic, bright, and a little timeless.
A visit that goes beyond the photos
On-site, you can explore various areas of the convent: dining hall, grand staircase, historic corridors... all tied together by the rich history of the place and its delightful little anecdotes. The audioguide picks up on details that you might not catch at first glance, and there are also guided tours to dive even deeper, especially around Art Nouveau.
