We all know the Heron Park for its wonderful walks, lake, and birds. But tucked away right next door is a hidden gem that many locals from Lille have yet to discover. Welcome to Asnapio, an archaeological park where centuries unfold with every step you take.
A Journey Between Prehistory and the Middle Ages
No display cases or objects behind velvet ropes here. Asnapio embraces immersion with around twenty full-scale reconstructions built from authentic archaeological discoveries found throughout northern France. Within just a few hundred meters, you'll wander from a prehistoric tent to a Gallic farm, then discover a Gallo-Roman villa followed by medieval houses. Each building has been reconstructed using period-authentic techniques, so you can understand—almost as if you were really there—how our ancestors lived thousands of years ago.

The real magic of Asnapio is that you're not just watching from the sidelines. Throughout the season, the park offers workshops, demonstrations, and activities to discover the techniques and skills of yesteryear. Making fire, craftsmanship, building methods, cooking, and traditional trades... both kids and adults can experience it all rather than simplyto observe. A fun way to learn that appeals to both children and adults (yes, we know you also want to try making fire with two pieces of wood).
A perfect outing in the heart of Heron Park
Surrounded by greenery, Asnapio is also a great idea for an outing when you're looking to get some fresh air without going far. You can easily combine a visit with a stroll through Heron Park, a picnic, or a bike ride for a 100% nature-filled day. The park regularly hosts themed days, guided tours, and workshops depending on the season. A good reason to come back several times a year: you never quite discover the same things twice.
Practical information
The Asnapio Archaeological Park is located on Carpeaux Street in Villeneuve-d'Ascq, in the heart of Heron Park, about twenty minutes from Lille. The park is open until October 18, 2026. Plan on €4 for adults, €2 for under 18s, and free admission for children under 5. Throughout the season, activities, workshops, and tours are offeredcute;s according to the schedule.
