Where to stay without having to sell a kidney?
Just like everywhere, the lively neighborhoods are often the most expensive, so avoid the old-old Lille or the La Citadelle neighborhood, prefer Wazemmes-Gambetta which offers many small shops and nice bars, the Port of Lille, Villeneuve-d'Ascq or the CHR and Ronchin neighborhood. Lille is well connected so don't panic if you are a bit far from the center or the university, plus there is a student rate for transportation for 27€ per month.

How to Eat Well?
We won't introduce you to apps like Too good to go, or Phénix to enjoy cheaper meals at your favorite restaurants or supermarkets if you want to treat yourself without spending too much, or Le Crous present in all student cities in France. We have an article listing 15 dishes for less than 10€ right here if you want to treat yourself. We understand that this may not be possible for everyone, so for groceries, we avoid small convenience stores of course and try to go outside the city for. Enjoy the big supermarkets, but there are also food distributions based on your income, the city of Lille has listed all the addresses, just here. Don't forget the NOUS.Convenience store that is an anti-waste grocery store on Gambetta street where you can save up to 50% on your shopping.
Don't forget to visit the Wazemmes market on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays for the best deals on fruits and vegetables at unbeatable prices!
