If you've ever dreamed of seeing plates of sushi spinning in front of you like in the Japanese restaurants in Osaka, great news: you no longer need to travel to the other side of the world! Since January 30, 2026, Sushi 8 has set up its conveyor belt at 86 Léon Gambetta Street, and it's the first of its kind in Lille.
The very first kaiten sushi in Lille
The concept? A kaiten-zushi, a system that originated in Japan in the 1950s to make sushi faster and more accessible. Here, plates of sushi, maki, starters, and desserts continuously glide around on a huge conveyor belt that winds around the room. You help yourself as they pass by, without getting up. And for hot dishes, just head to the tablet: once your order is confirmed, they'll arrive right at your table (delivered by a robot, of course). Clearly, the experience matters just as much as the food.

A buffet-style feast, all you can eat, for lunch and dinner
At Sushi 8 Lille, the formula is simple: all-you-can-eat buffet. Prices range from 17.90 € at lunch to 24.90 € in the evening. The portions are intentionally small, so you can sample as much as possible. Sushi, makis, skewers (halal), small starters, desserts included... it's the perfect way to try a wide variety without overflowing by the third plate. While the conveyor belt may change based on customer flow, ordering via tablet remains smooth, even when the room is full. It’s a fun, quick experience that’s really in tune with the times!
Gambetta boosts its trendy food scene
With this new Japanese restaurant in Lille, Gambetta Street adds a very Instagrammable touch to its offerings. The kaiten sushi, still rare in the North, brings that little "wow" factor that sets it apart from the classic buffet.
