This action aimed to regulate the wild boar population, with strict safety measures put in place. Let's look back at the reasons and stakes of this initiative.
Why hunt wild boars near Dijon?
The hunting operation on Tuesday, January 21, organized by the City of Dijon and the municipalities of Corcelles-les-Monts and Plombières-lès-Dijon, aimed to control a wild boar population that was becoming overwhelming. Wild boars are known to cause damage to crops, degrade the soil, and pose a risk to public safety, especially on the roads.
To ensure the safety of the residents, a special arrangement has been put in place:
- Eight control points positioned at the main access points.
- Strict prohibition on pedestrian pathways, cycling, and horseback riding in the affected area.
- Traffic speed reduced to 50 km/h, especially between Dijon and the roundabout at the entrance to Corcelles-les-Monts.
This hunting activity, in accordance with municipal decrees, is part of a program planned until March 31, 2025, with operations taking place every Tuesday morning outside of school holidays and public holidays.
Hunting in Dijon, a necessary but regulated measure
The affected areas included sites such as the Deer Parks, En Bessey, La Chauffée, La Pointe de Morgemain, Les Plantes, Combes Megdit, and Combe Pirouelle. These spaces, often cherished for outdoor activities, have been temporarily closed to ensure the safety of residents.
With three operations already organized this season, the City of Dijon and the neighboring communities are seeking a balance between preserving human activities, protecting the local ecosystem, and ensuring public safety. In the meantime, specific signage has been installed to inform and raise awareness among residents about the issues surrounding these actions.
The next hunting operation has already been announced. If you're planning a stroll in the valleys, be sure to check the local restrictions before you head out into those areas... for everyone's safety!
