On January 20, 2025, Besançon made waves by announcing its withdrawal from the social network X (formerly Twitter). A platform seen as too permissive toward hateful content and conspiracy theories. The city decided to move toward calmer horizons, notably the Bluesky network.

Dijon in the storm of fake news on X
On its part, Dijon is not lagging behind. During her wishes to the press on January 7, 2025, Mayor Nathalie Koenders expressed her concern about the rampant misinformation on X. She mentioned seriously considering leaving this platform, labeling it a major vector for spreading false news.
An inevitable departure from X for Dijon?
As of now, the account @DijonMetropole is still active on X. However, with the recent statements from the mayor and the growing trend of communities leaving this network, it wouldn’t be surprising if Dijon follows in Besançon's footsteps. The desire to maintain a healthy and reliable information space seems to be at the heart of municipal concerns.
