The Venice Simplon Orient Express makes a stop in Bordeaux

Yesterday, in the middle of the day, travelers at Gare Saint-Jean had a wonderful surprise. Among the Ouigo and Intercité trains, the Orient Express (aka the most expensive train in the world) stopped for a short fifteen minutes on track 3. Quickly noticed, passersby were intrigued.

But what is this legendary rolling masterpiece from the Belle Époque doing in Gare Saint-Jean? This is definitely not its usual route which usually travels through Venice, Prague, Budapest or even Istanbul. Bewildered, the people of Bordeaux notice that it is not displayed on the departure or arrival boards.

A Weekend in Gironde for Jay-Z's 54th Birthday

A mystery kept secret by the operator, the Belmond group (LVMH). Quickly, bloggers lifted the veil on this story. The reason? Jay-Z's birthday, who celebrated his 54th birthday this weekend at Château d'Yquem in Sauternes. A very private celebration. For the occasion, the American star couple had privatized the Bordeaux vineyard estate with A-list celebrities. Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Ellen Pompeo... There are even whispers that Rihanna was there.

A truly exceptional journey went smoothly. The newspaper Le Résistant specifies: "Beyoncé, the superstar singer, spent a weekend in Gironde and left Bordeaux with her family on board the mythical train that would take them to Paris. A journey of over 20 hours to arrive at 2:30 p.m. the next day on this train with three restaurants and luxury suites." Only guests and staff on board were able to board the train.
