Bordeaux Residents: Inveterate Chatterboxes!
To discover the cities where inhabitants are the most talkative, the language learning platform Preply questioned over 1,500 residents from 15 of the largest cities in France about how often they engage in certain behaviors in their lives and how they perceive inhabitants of other cities. The study reveals that the second most talkative city in France is Bordeaux, with a "chatter rating" of 83.8 out of 100, behind Marseille (96.7) and followed by Montpellier (73.3).
The most common behaviors
The platform has been able to accurately analyze the most common behaviors among residents of Bordeaux. It turns out that the most common chatty behaviors in Bordeaux are :
- Thanking someone who opens the door for us (90%)
- Engaging in a conversation with friends or family if you meet them on the street (85%)
- Talking to shopkeepers/cashiers in a store (77%)
- Discussing current events with friends or family members (77%)
- Chatting with your hairdresser (74%)
In contrast, the cities where silence reigns are Dijon, Rennes, and Reims. These are the 3 cities at the bottom of the ranking, meaning they talk the least.
It's a different story in Bordeaux, where the art of living involves clinking glasses over a good glass of wine and sharing our best stories. On average, the French speak to 5.5 people a day for pleasure or leisure. But here in Bordeaux, we break that record. Hospitality is just in our nature!
