At Futurscope, say goodbye to flushing,  your pee now has a second life ! Committed to  sustainable development  and  ecological transition, the amusement park has teamed up with  the Girondin company Toopi Organics to collect urine. The goal?  Recycle, treat, and transform it into biostimulants for agriculture. And with two million visitors each year, that adds up to a lot of pee collected! Currently, four restroom blocks are equipped, with all of them set to be ready by 2025.

275,000 liters of drinking water saved in 2021!

Based on the use of urinals without flush and equipped with a reservoir, the park is making a splash in saving water!

These eco-friendly toilets save nearly 3 liters of drinking water with every use. In 2021 alone, 23,000 liters of urine were collected at Futuroscope, which means over 275,000 liters of drinking water saved, the park reported in a press release.

Managing urine is a real global issue. Every year in Europe alone,  6,000 billion liters of drinking water  are contaminated by nearly 200 billion liters of urine. Worldwide, about 80% of wastewater is released without treatment.bsp;», reports Toopi Organics.

Human urine, a natural fertilizer

Every year, over 18 million tons of mineral fertilizers are used in Europe in agriculture. Often, the most imported ones are made up of nitrogen (29%), phosphorus (58%), and potassium (78%). And guess what? Human urine is just the same! Rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and micronutrients, it serves as an excellent growth medium for microorganisms, making it a super fertilizer for soils. And the coolest part? We'll never run out of pee: it’s a limitless natural resource!
